Located on the corner of Crockford Street and Ingles Street in Port Melbourne, sits a cafe named Long Story Short. With simple furniture, white tiles and humble decorations, the cafe achieved a clean minimalist look that create a welcoming atmosphere. The cafe is framed with wide clear windows which allow plenty of natural light to come in, making it effortless for us foodies to take decent pictures.
I couldn’t decide whether I wanted a savoury or sweet dish, but why not both? My friend, Clarinna, and I wanted to order the same dishes so we agreed to share. First up is these corn fritters placed beautifully on a bed of salad and babaganoush with a slight hint of spicy paprika. The fritters were a bit dense for my liking and I would have liked more corn in it, but the flavour combination was well balanced and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection.
This dish just wins at every angle, appearance, flavours, texture and especially the fluffiness of the pancakes. Initially I was a tad intimidated at how much chocolate is involved, the timtam, the cripspies and soup, however the poached nashi pear brought lightness into the dish which ended up being well balanced. I do have to say that this is probably one of the fluffiest pancakes I have ever tasted.
